Like many parents, I was looking for simple ways to get my kids off screens and outside — doing something we could all enjoy together. On a seaside holiday a few years back, we picked up a couple of cheap crab lines and gave it a go.
It turned out to be the highlight of our trip.
There’s something timeless and brilliant about crabbing: the excitement of seeing who’ll get the biggest crab, the squeals when one scuttles off sideways, and that slow bucket inspection before letting them all go.
A family tradition
Ever since then, crabbing has become our family tradition. Every holiday, we search out the best local quay or harbour. It’s cheap, easy to set up, and totally addictive — even the grown-ups get hooked!
