Features
When it comes to crabbing spots that double as classic seaside days, Clacton Pier & Seafront is all kinds of brilliant. Think lively pier, thrilling rides for backup, and lines dangling into the deep—the perfect combo.
Crabbing the Pier Scene
Families lean over the railings, elbow to elbow, as lines drop into inviting deep tides. I’ve seen buckets hooked almost comically full—kids giggling with every twitch. It’s classic coastal entertainment, and some of the best crabs seem to arrive when the sea lets a little slack in.

The pier and nearby shops usually stock crab lines and bait—bacon or fish offcuts—, and there’s often arcades or sweet shops to pick one up too (just don’t lose your token while you’re at it!). The pier has everything you’ll need. You can ask here about where to crab and if it is available at the time. We have found conflicting reports of whether crabbing is allowed at the pier.
Parking & Ease
There’s plenty of town seafront parking just a walk from the pier—not necessarily glamorous, but handy. Perfect for unloading buckets fast, then strolling straight to water, arcade, or ice cream stand.
Nearby car parks
Colne Road car park- The closest you can get, it’s hard to find spaces on busy days! Directions.
If you don’t mind a 10-minute walk, then park here; it’s much easier to find a space.
A Full Day Out Awaits
This pier is more than crabs. Rides, arcades, soft-play, ten-pin bowling, food stalls—there’s a layer of excitement for everyone. And that includes ice cream kiosks, promenade cafés, and public loos—making it a full family day, even if the crabs are shy. This is an action-packed and very long pier, there is loads to do here, and it’s great for a day out, or just an afternoon if you prefer. It’s open well into the evening as well and looks amazing lit up at night –

Final Thoughts
Clacton Pier does crabbing with flair. It’s about that tug on the line, sure—but also about arcade-style nostalgia, sea-salt air, and families laughing in the shade of a helter-skelter. A great pick when you want crabs and sea, but find yourself staying all afternoon.
